Trust me, in Northern VA where i stay people are totally self-obsessed and selfish. They care only about having the biggest house or the biggest and newest lexus or the fanciest degree. In 14 years in Hampton Roads, the people were more down to earth and people were more civil. I wouldnt say friendly but they at least gave you an opportunity to build a friendship.

I love the weather (compared to Texas or Florida) it is wonderful when it cools off at night and I can go for a walk with my dogs.
