Hi all!

I'm considering a position in the College Dr area in Suffolk and I'm concerned about the commute. I live in Va Beach - Shore Dr/N. Great Neck. Mapquest says it's 26 milesish and 39 minutes. Is this accurate? I used to drive 49 miles one way when I worked in the southwest and with the stop and go traffic, I felt like kicking someone by the time I arrived everyday. Assuming a typical 8-4:30 day, am I going to be stressed out like that driving to Suffolk from the beach? Couldn't find any posts on this one. Thanks so much for your advice.

Yea that's about right. Bout a 45 minutes drive. I had been staying somewhere in Suffolk at one point and had friends in VA Beach. Kills you on gas too. It will get old after awhile. Might even run the risk of getting a speeding ticket being on the road that long too, not to be an arse and borrow trouble but VA doesn't really play around with speeding and such. Just my 2 cents. I am not partial to lonnnnng drives and sitting a car for that long. Esp. after work, I am kind of tired, cranky, usually just want to get home and eat dinner at a normal time and chill out. Last thing I would want to deal with is effing traffic and/or a long commute. Some people could care less though. So 2 each their own..

Maybe on a dream like day when you catch all of the lights green and there is no traffic or back-ups of any kind on the secondary roads and interstate you might be able to make that trip in 40 minutes........my guess would be to plan on at least an hour on the road, on days traffic or weather is bad....even much longer.....
