And I second Kyushu! They are the only "authentic," shall we say, sushi that I've found anywhere within 100 miles. People that are going for fancy schmancy atmosphere over food, don't come here.

It was definitely Haru. They did have a review in the paper. It's my favorite (I've had sushi all over the place--Chicago, California, and it was even better than Nobu in Vegas). Cool atmosphere and delicious food. And the plates are so pretty. I love the spicy octopus salad and the Valentines roll (ask for it if it's not on the menu). It's off of Hanbury road next to Harris Teeter in Great Bridge/Hickory (right off hwy 168).

I second the atmosphere. I've had Sushi in Japan, and I can honestly say,Kyushu comes in a close second.

Arrrgh, I knew it. Knew it had four letters! I am so there.

For anyone who's interested, there's a local sushi group on meetup.com. I've been to about 10 meetings, I'd say. Fun to get around and try new places, good company.

I liked going to Mah's at the Oceanfront, Nara off Independece in VB, Kotobuki off 21st in Norfolk, Domo downtown Norfolk and Kyoto in Chesapeake for sushi.

There were so many other sushi restaurants that I wanted to try before I left but did not get a chance to. I have not been able to find decent sushi where I live now....
