I applied for a job in Chesapeake and just wondered how the drive is from Newport News. I just moved to the area 3 weeks ago and normally I drove about 45 mins for work. How is the traffic?

Not bad at all. Take the Monitor Merrimack Bridge Tunnel and pass through suffolk, portsmouth, then your in Chesapeake. About a 25 minute ride.

+1. And for clarification purposes, since you're new to the area, the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT as you may see sometimes) is designated as Interstate 664.
And do NOT try to take Interstate 64 (Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or HRBT) to Chesapeake from Newport News (or back).

Well, it depends on what part of NN you are driving from to what part of chesapeake you are going to. I commuted 3 years from Oyster Point to Great Bridge and it still took 45 minutes to over an hour easily, especially in the AM. MMBT was fine, but going across the High Rise bridge, you consistently had a 5 mile backup in the AM. It definitely is not an easy commute

Hmm. Good point. I forgot about the High Bridge. Is it still only four lanes? (I haven't been that way in a while)

Oh yeah, HR is still 4 lanes....plans to widen it, but I dont know when that nightmare will begin. So where in NN are you living and what part of Cpeake are you working?
