Anyone know of any good rockabilly hangouts in the area? I've had trouble making friends/finding places to go, and I'm started to go stir crazy.

Or even places with metalheads. Something preferably in the Hampton area, but I'll take what I can get.

I don't know about any rockabilly hangouts, but all the metalheads I know of usually just hang out at shows. Plenty of metal shows roll through the area, but I don't think there's a bar or anything where they all congregate on a regular basis or anything. I'd just check online for shows in the area. For the rockabilly stuff, I'd actually go to some of the Dominon Derby Girls (Hampton Roads roller derby) functions. My sister was on the team for awhile and many of them are into that.

The Boot in Ghent has lots of indie rock shows. Buddahs Place in Newport News is supposed to be the home of metal in Hampton Roads. There are also a couple of clubs at the oceanfront that have live local music nightly.

The Taphouse
931 W 21st St
Norfolk, VA

I've never been to the Taphouse, but they definitely have rockabilly regulars there. I don't know if anyone on this forum listens to The Smiths/Morrissey, but every now and then, a rockabilly Smiths/Moz tribute band will play. I have yet to check it out because it sounds so gosh darn interesting.

Bar None
5000 Cleveland St
Virginia Beach, VA

I've definitely been to Bar None. I can assure you there are quite a few slicked back hair/sleeve tattoo types there and girls who look like they should be pin up models. However, I can only vouch for this when something is going on there. They have a pretty active events schedule from garage rock/punk/indie rock bands to art shows to dance nights.

An the Smiths! Too wild. Check out the Machine, the Pink Floyd Tribute band. They hit the Norva from time to time.

As far as metal shows, friends go to a bunch.

Check out his photos and comments. I seem to recall "Stepping out" as holding shows.

That's funny, because we in Virginia Beach/Norfolk talk about going to DC all the time to catch shows.

Screw that, haha. I've never gone further than Richmond for a show.

Heading up you guys way this weekend to see Social Distortion, they are playing at The Norva on Sunday. Trying to figure out what else there is to do in Norfolk.
