Hi ~ I am new to the area and wanted to know what goes on around here as far as festivals/fairs? Are there any neighborhoods that do Christmas lights thru-out?
Any suggestions are appreciated!

I don't know about specific neighborhoods but there are several professional drive thru light displays. Newport News park has a really nice one as does the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on the boardwalk. The Botanical Gardens in Norfolk has a Holiday lights display but I have not been to that one yet. Maybe this year I'll remember. I heard it was nice. All cost $ of course.

If you want a unique experience come to the Grand Illumination in Colonial Williamsburg on Dec 6th. We go every year. Go early as it does get crowded.

Colonial Williamsburg celebrates a momentous occasion on Dec. 6, 2009. Not only is it the 75th anniversary of Grand Illumination, it is the Fifes and Drums’ 50th performance at the traditional Christmas celebration. The celebration begins with a variety of entertainment throughout the Historic Area. The Fifes and Drums and other costumed performers present holiday entertainment. At 6:15 p.m., candles are lit in public buildings, shops and homes, and fireworks are launched at three Historic Area locations: the Governor’s Palace, Magazine and Capitol. After the fireworks, entertainment resumes on the outdoor stages and continues until 7:30 p.m.
