Has anyone else noticed the ever-presence of helicopters around the Independence/264 area of Virginia Beach? In the daytime I see everything from big military helicopters to smaller, what I am guessing are, police helicopters. They apparently aren't news choppers, as according to the news stations, most of them are grounded due to economic reasons.

I don't really care in the daytime, but it is now 1AM, and one is flying over keeping me awake. They fly at all hours of the day and night. Does anyone have a clue what is going on? I understand the occasional criminal on the lam, but our city is beginning to sound like Compton circa 1992.

Maybe we have military bases in the area?

NJR..ya think???

Perhaps I was not clear, I am well aware that there are military helicopters flying over the Pembroke area (re: my post above). I see them in the daytime. It is curious that all of the sudden they are constantly flying over my home (which did not begin to occur until this year), but to my knowledge they do not fly during late night or early morning hours. It's a little strange, but what is really concerning is the smaller helicopters which fly at all hours (I've heard them at 3AM). They fly over EVERY NIGHT at least once.

Erma,

They seem to follow the Independence corridor. It might depend how close you live to that street. The 3AM flying is rare, but it does happen.

Helicopters flying at night = police searching for criminals. It's experted during a down economy. There is bound to be more crime.

Ghetto Birds for lack of a better description. Having spent 8 years at Ft. Bragg I am very familiar with helicopter noise and dont care if I ever see or hear another. I live in South Western Suffolk and recently I hear a big one that flys way into the night. Ive even taken off in my car looking for what in the world could be the reason for all this infernal racket out here in the country. They sound as if they are east of me towards the Dismal Swamp and it seems to be at night mostly. Certainly not every night like in Va Beach and this a big bird. Anyone know ?
