We are looking for a house in the Great Neck Area of Va Beach. Can you tell me where I can get information on noise levels from the airport and naval base?

Some of that information I found on the Oceana website when I researched VB. It is located at http://www.nasoceana.navy.mil/AICUZ_files/aicuzabout.htm (broken link).

You will find that for the most part the Great Neck area is the lowest noise level. That is why it is one of the most sought after areas (and expensive).

the map that ellar sent you to is the same one we use for the disclosure form that sellers must provide you.

You can pretty much stand at the oceanfront around 34 St. face the land, angle towards Laskin Rd./ Birdneck Rd., and you will follow the landing pattern and the takeoff pattern of the jets from Oceana. Either side of Birdneck is insane. I live on 33rd and deal with the noise all the time. Other then that most of Va. Beach is okay. I think

You can get a noise and crash ratings on each home on the market from your real estate agent. There is jet noise all over VB but a lot less off of Shore Drive and also southwest VB.

I lived in great neck for 16 years. Most of the time the noise level is OK, but ocassionally, depending on wind direction, there is some VERY LOUD jet noise. Stay away from Point Of Woods or Wellington Estates. The LOUD noise is far more frequent in those subdivisions. If you are concerned with noise...and you should be...stay north of Old Dominion. The air quality is another issue to be aware of. Because of so much jet traffic in the Virginia Beach area the air often smells like you're driving behind a deisel bus. However, it does rain alot in Virginia Beach which naturally cleanses the air and keeps it from getting too foul.

Best wishes in your search....Franco
