They appear to be well ranked, and I would suspect with the high income neighborhoods that have moved there that things are headed in a positive direction, but looking for anecdotal thoughts.

I was raised in a pHiladelphia suburb that had better public schools than pretty much anything that exists in this area, so I'm skeptical, but want to raise my family here and do the best I can with schools.

I'm a senior here. I will tell you that the schools here have much to be desired. At least the high school. Isle of Wight county schools are run by crooks. They claim they have no funds, yet they buy ipod touches for students to access the internet. There are a lot of 'bad' math teachers. English is okay. There's no real variety in education. You can go to Pruden as a junior in high school to be certified in a trade. Hardy Elementary is a school that is HUGE on reading. Read read read read read read read. I struggled in Math and Science there and the only thing I'm currently doing well in now is English and History. I don't know how Carrollton Elementary is. The middle school, West Side, is right beside a high crime Apartment Complex. It's for grades 4-6 The other middle school, beside the high school, is a nice building and I believe it functions well. The school board is a bit ridiculous. During the Nor'easter, they sent students to school, and as a result, a parent died on the way to bring their child to school, only because the bus couldn't get to their spot. And there are high income neighborhoods, but they send their students to the private school, Isle of Wight Academy, which does terrible with teaching. I remember students having to switch to the public schools because they were failing state tests and other courses due to the teaching. I would say the public school is better than the private. It's mainly a race thing there.
