I lived in Norfolk from 1962-1966 (Yeah, I'm THAT old...) and I remember our milk & dairy products coming from Birchard's Dairy. I believe their slogan was "Quality Checked' back then. Anyone else remember them or know what happened to them?

Yes I remember them, I have lived in the area all of my life and so many nice things/places have gone away since then. Don't know if you were familiar with Yoder Dairy but they also have sold now, what a shame

We used to stop at the Yoder store in Great Bridge on the way to OBX for milk shakes, milk, and baked goods..Yummm. Growing up in VB I had many neighbors who had Yoder milk delivered to their homes. Our family was bit more budget minded ( military, then teacher) and we bought ours has the commisary by the case and froze it.

Thanks for the replies! I collect diecast truck models and I see where a model of the old Divco milk trucks that dairies like Birchard used. I'd sure love to see one in their colors sigh...

I was long gone when Yoder came on the scene. I see Yoder products delivered to stores here in OH but I'm not sure it's the same company...

I REmember Birchard Dairy. I used to pass it coming home from Sacred Heart school from 1937 until about 1944. (I was born about the time they invented rocks.)

There were three major dairies in VB Area: Bayville Farms (golden Gurnsey cows), Yoder Dairy (Holstein cows, a Menonite operation on the Pensulia), And Birtchard Dairy, the more comercial of the three.....there was always great disagreement amongst resdients as to whose milk was better, Bayville or Yoder......Bichard was never in the running. In you drank Bayville milk then you could not stomach thectaste of Yoder, and vise-a-versa. It was all a matter which dairy you were use to drinking.

Thanks, Triode! I was age 7-11 when we lived in norfolk, so my taste buds weren't quite refined yet! But I do remember a field trip where we went to the Birchard dairy. Don't remember any other dairy from our time there ('62-'66)

I remember going to Yoder Dairy as a kid! My dad used to take me to get ice cream. I'd always get the strawberry ice cream in one of those delicious fresh waffle cones. This was early-mid 90's.
