We are planning to move to Chesapeake this summer and are looking for information on the elementary schools in the area. We are planning to be in either the Hickory, Grassfield, or Great Bridge high school zones, and as far as I can tell, these are the corresponding elementary schools:

Butts Road Primary/Intermediate
Southeastern Elementary
Hickory Elementary
Grassfield Elementary
Great Bridge Primary/Intermediate

Anyone with experience with these schools? We've done our internet research but figured we'd check to see if we could find some people who have experienced the schools. My daughter will be entering first grade and is currently in the gifted program where we are, so a school with a well-developed gifted program would be a plus.

Thanks!

My children go to Grassfield Elementary and I am very happy with the school. The principal is wonderful, there are lots of activities and clubs for the kids, and it is a nice clean newer school that is not overcrowded.

We moved here from Suffolk a year ago and are very pleased.

Another area is Western Branch Chesapeake. My children are very happy in the Chittum, Joliff, Western Branch schools. There is less new housing in Western Branch but lots are larger and established neighborhoods which are safe and friendly. Traffic isn't bad, and we are 10 minutes to Suffolk but have shopping here too.

I have heard good things about many of the schools that you mentioned. I have also heard that traffic can be awful in that general area. I am sure that depends on when and where you travel though.

Ask locals about where it floods. Many roads have low spots that routinely flood.
