Evening,
My wife and I will be moving to the area sometime in April, I will be stationed at NOB and had a few questions. We are looking for a place to rent and our two biggest requirements are travel time and safety, I am looking for a travel of 35 minutes or less to NOB in the mornings and safety wise a place where my wife could go jog/run in the evening safely ( I know everywhere has its problems but a location with the least would be prime)....The rest of ie.. amentities I will figure out myself once I can narrow down location....Thanks!

We live in the Greenbrier/Great Bridge area of Chesapeake and it is convenient to the freeway and pretty safe. There are houses for rent around us, and several apartment complexes not far away (a brand new one just opened about 2 miles away that is immediately adjacent to the S Battlefield exit off of 168). Our subdivision is Riverwalk and I would be comfortable outside at night. The YMCAs in the area are excellent and you might want to consider membership there for times when it's too cold to comfortably run outside.

Do you have jet noise in this area?

Our area is rated the lowest for jet noise. That said, we do hear helicopters a few times a week, sometimes fairly low-flying. We are a good distance away from Oceana, though, so I've never noticed any jet noise.

We love the Larchmont area. You're about three miles from base (and traffic around here SUCKS) and it is a historic-y area so it is pretty and generally safe (I say generally because it is near Old Dominion University so you have issues in nearby areas from time to time). Welcome!

I just wouldnt suggest living anywhere near NOB But .... Great Neck area of Virginia Beach - near First State Landing Park if possible - I suggest taking Shore Drive to Little Creek to NOB for commute. I also agree with Greenbriar/Great Bridge.

I also agree with the Greenbrier assessment., it is a fine place for singles or young couples to live..The only problem with Greenbrier is the high school zone it is in which sucks compared to the Greatbridge or Hickory school zones so many famlies with middle or high school age kids avoid this area...This can be a good thing for someone like yourself as it keeps the property value (rent prices) lower then the higher rated school zones

I live in Greenbrier and really like it. I would feel safe jogging around my neighborhood at night... my husband works at NOB and the commute is anywhere from 20-35 minutes, depending on traffic.
