I'm thinking about renting a house on southampton ave in Hampton and Im not from the area so, I was wondering is anyone could fill me in on the area. I have a four year old so the area school is definitely a big question. I'm also concerned about crime/drugs. I'm not concerned with racial diversity, I just don't want to be outside with my children and have to hear the drama of a "bad" neighborhood. I also like to walk so, I don't want to have to worry about getting robbed or hit by a stray bullet when I take a walk. And the last thing.... If anyone rents in the area.. whats an average price for rent for a 3-4br? Thanks in advance for any answers

To address the school situation:

Hampton City Schools (http://www.sbo.hampton.k12.va.us/schlinformation/schoolzone/schools.php?zone=1907 - broken link)

The schools for SOUTHAMPTON AVE are listed below:

If your child is enrolled in kindergarten, your child will attend ARMSTRONG Elementary School (Web Site)

If your child is NOT enrolled in kindergarten, your child will attend WYTHE Elementary School (Web Site)

SPRATLEY Middle School (Web Site)

PHOEBUS High School (Web Site)

Wythe Elementary School - Hampton, Virginia - VA - School overview

As far as the neighborhood is concerned I generally tell people to avoid most spots below Mercury Blvd but most of the trouble down there happens near the Shell Rd/Aberdeen area and near I-664 which is a ways fron Southhampton Ave. It is actually closer to Downtown Hampton which is an up an coming area in Hampton Roads.

No they are not. I also agree with another poster to stay north of mercury blvd or just stay in north hampton in general.
