Hey fellow carpenters,
I am moving from Nashville to VB this April to be closer to my wife's family. God help me. How is the job market for a carpenter with 20 plus years experience? What can I expect to be paid there? Before living in Nashville TN. I was a contractor in SF. The $ was great( $100K/yr). The $ in Nashville is terrible( $15/hr). Also the quality of work is below average compared to SF. Can I at least get $25/hr in VB or should I go out and work on my own. What are my options? Thanks guys.

Trust me, its Rough...My SO is a builder/framer/carpenter. Its been a rough few months (colder weather slows everything down) but its just now starting to pick up.

Last year he could do $25/hr no problem, but, we're waiting to see what this year brings. We always check the Skilled Trades section of Craigslist, but a lot of it lately is an insult and a joke..no one wants to pay.

I tell ya, if it wasnt for some repairs from the Nor'easter last November, he would have starved...

I had a feeling it would be that way. I've been doing small repairs to make ends meet also here in Nashville. Our trade is suffering nationwide. Lets hope this season is the start of a recovery.
Thanks for the info!!!
