I'm coming down to the area for business. I'm landing in Norfolk and staying close to the airport on a Sunday night. My meeting is in Williamsburg (no time set yet) on Monday. I'll be returning to Norfolk that late afternoon or evening. I've heard the nightmares of traffic especially over the bridge.
My question's are these. Am I traveling against the real heavy traffic or is it heavy both ways....and if it is heavy no matter which way I go, how early do I have to leave to avoid the real heavy stuff as well as my return.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Really hard to say because every day can be different, if there are no accidents or breakdowns traffic will move but will be heavy around the normal rush hour times....I am sure it is to late to change flights now but next time look into flying into Newport News and save yourself the hassle of the tunnel

I know about NN airport. My plans were originally on the Norfolk side but got changed. Too late to change the flight.
I'm very flexible with times though and can leave early if I have too

Going from Norfolk to Williamsburg you will have traffic around the 64/564 split. The tunnel should be fairly smooth in the morning (it is at 630-7AM when I cross).

Coming back is a different story. Lately it has been about a 2-3 mile back up at the tunnel. I would give yourself 1 hour 15min to 1.5 hrs to get from Wmbg to ORF if your traveling during the 4pm-530pm range.

Thank you much, mwz. It dosn't sound too bad. I'll probably head out a little earlier than that and come back in a little later, to avoid a bit more of the heavy stuff.
I appreciate your input, thanks again.
