that's what i thought, but i'm not that familiar with them. i thought sturgeon were freshwater fish, so i dismissed it. anyway, i just did a google search after reading your post and apparently there is a marine species. it still looks pretty strange to me.

I was at the Virginia Living museum and heard people talking about an alligator gar fish. I don't know if I heard them properly, but they pointed at a fish that looked a bit like this. This is a fantastic photo, and I agree--- historic looking fish!

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and we fished for Sturgeon all the time. We would catch them in the Bay which was salt water. They are really tasty but they are not commercially fished so you would have to catch one to eat one! LOL!
