Hi folks,

I live in NJ. My daughter is going to Messiah College in Grantham. My husband and I and my other daughter are looking to move to Pa. This is to be closer to the college since my other daughter will also be going there next year. At the moment none of us drive. I am wondering if there is any bus service in either area? I'm used to either walking to taking the bus to the bank, library, shopping. I know there are taxis but that will be expensive. Also how about things to do for my daughters? I am hoping to find a job and my husband also. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I would suggest the West Shore area, the term West Shore encompasses everything on the west side of the Susquahanna river, mainly Cumberland County. Grantham and Mechanicsburg are West Shore. Personal security can be an issue in Harrisburg. I don't know where you live in NJ but I would think Harrisburg is on the level of say Trenton. Hope I haven't disparaged your town. Mechanicsburg is a nice town and if you live in town, rentals are available and many things such as small stores providing various services and restaurants are within walking distance. If you're considering buying a home than driving your own vehicle is pretty much a requirement to get around. Regarding things to do for your daughters, I raised a daughter so I'm sure your daughters will find many things for you to do for them. Without knowing what type of skills you have or your employment backgrounds, it's hard to comment on jobs except to say that there are jobs available and various agencies that can help you. You really need to drive, particularly for employment and shopping and of course visiting your daughters.

Best of Luck,
Greg

i think grantham is a nice place to be. you could take a taxi there, they have bus service from the main cities to the otehr cities, it is not far from route 15 and the cumberalnd parkway. they have banks and gas stations in the area, but i am sure they have apartments closeby that you could walk to from the area. I am not certain about the bus but it is on the edge of a very highly populated area. average rent should run you between 600 - 725 range fora very nice place. most of the cities mechanicsburg, carlisle, camp hill, lemoyne, new cumberland and enola have bus routes between them. that area is mostly white and pretty conservative. They is some diversity there, and there is a wealth of outdoor things to do. most of the people are nice, but kind of private. ~Dan~

Default grantham area

Hi - I went to Messiah College. There really is no public transport in the area, and it would be best if you bought a car.

Smile liverpool?

I'm looking into PA also.
I live in Rural NJ
and it's very heavily populated

what kind of recreation is on the river?

anyone know anything about Liverpool?
we have a camper by Raystown Lake
and we'd be a lot closer to it

I'm concerned about schools as 2 of my children
need special services. My youngest is returning to district
this September...i'm thinking that
a smaller school setting would be best.

Liverpool seems to have Greenwood schools and Juanita schools
are there better areas I should look into?

Default Moving to PA

Hello, my family and I are moving to Mechanicsburg PA, with my job. I am looking for any information on the area. We have large dogs and I wanted to rent a small home with a fenced yard. Would you any any suggestions on where to look? I have checked in internet, and local newspapers, but they didn't list much. We are coming from Mississippi, so it is not like we can spead a day looking with out actually driving 2 days to get there. Thank You for any help you may be able to offer.

Would you want to live in town or out in the suburbs? There are plenty of nice homes with small yards in town. Out in the suburbs there is not much for rent but you could be able to find something in rural Silver Spring or Monroe Township.

I would check PennLive.com: Everything Local for real estate listings. That is the website for the local newspaper.
