I recently recieved a job in Lebanon but do not wish to live there.....I have narrowed my apartment search down to Crossing at Millcreek in Lancaster, Newport Commons in Lititz, and a house in Manheim. I know the commute from Manheim and Lititz isnt bad but I was wondering about the commute from Lancaster to Lebanon.......any info on the commute or the apartments would be greatly appriciated

any other apartment recommendations are welcome as well

Surprised no one's answered, perhaps this should be moved to the general PA forum as the areas mentioned are outside the Harrisburg metro (Lancaster is its own)

I wasn't going to reply since I'm really not THAT familiar with either area. However, from my limited experience, you'll be driving along secondary state highways (I think PA-72 and PA-501). This means single-lane traffic in each direction for most of your journey, along with stop signs, left turns, and traffic lights. I don't know about the rush hour volume along the route, but those types of roads are generally hit pretty hard by congestion.

IMHO, you're looking at a pretty bad commute. Not the worst, but bad.

That seems to sum it up whenever I've had occasion to be between either Lititz or Manheim and Lancaster. I'd be willing to hazard a guess that the square in either would be half-way if not more time-wise from Lancaster City out to Lebanon. Taking either PA 283 or US 222 out of Lancaster to some other diagonal road won't help much either, since those expressways skip exits when crossing what would be the most logical congestion-skipping choices (PA 241 or PA 897). Makes you wonder if US 322 through Ephrata would be a viable choice, I never go over there on a weekday to see how bad it gets.

Lebanon generally has been historically shafted by highway planners. Imagine how much more accessible the city would have been had "they" decided to run I-81/I-78 as far south of the parallel US 22 as it currently is north of it through Lebanon County.
