In December 1985 I made a road trip with two college buddies from Ithaca, NY to Blacksburg, VA, down I-81 almost the whole way. At some point between Carlisle and the Maryland border we stopped for lunch, exiting off I-81 and heading west a short distance on a main road. There was a roadhouse on the left (south) side of the road and we walked in. We were three college guys walking into the world of a bluecollar, steelworkers' bar. Although it was only 11AM, big, burly guys at the bar were already drinking shots and beers. It had a big parking lot out front and there was a pool table in the front room, which was where the bar was. I don't kniow if there was a dining room. The barmaid told us that in an hour, when the local shift let out, there wouldn't be room to stand in the place.

She also greeted us with a foreign sounding expression - and told us it was a local expression meaning "hello" or "hey, how are you?"

Can anyone tell me where we might have stoppped? Is it still in business?

About a year ago I stopped at The Cottage, but the layout was not as I recalled so I don't think that was it.

And what was the expression which was used as a greeting? It was not in English - perhaps it had Pennsylvania Dutch origins?
