Hey folks we are relocating to York from Arkansas in two weeks and so I need to know who is the best pediatrician and dentist in your area,,I have a 6 year old who has had some medical issues in the past but probably only have to see a doctor twice a year and an 8 yr old son who only really goes for shots--I pay out of pocket b/c here in Arkansas we make too much for state insurance,,literally 100 more a year than allowed--but anyway any help would be appreciated so I can compile a list to visit them.

Any of them in the Wellspan group would probably be fine, they are wonderful about referring you to specialists. I know York Pediatrics does keep late office hours and will often see people up until 11:00 at night. They are very accomodating. We also have a number of "care express" and "readycare" facilities for emergencies, and they are associated with Wellspan as well.

Thank you so much..let me ask you, I am African American,,and now its looking like we may be living in Red Lion but I'm a bit concerned, I am use to living in a city where its an even mix of races but I live in a predominately white neighborhood..that being said, white people are use to seeing blacks here and we don't have a lot of racial incidents..pretty much I want to know will the folks in Red Lion be looking at us like we are "exotic creatures" LOL or does everyone just keep to themselves..

You'll be fine~most people just keep to themselves regardless of the color/race/ethnicity. It's a PA thing.

You're concern about being somewhat exotic is not valid. Red Lion is only roughly 9 miles from the city of York. York has one of the higher percentages of African Americans in PA. Furthermore from York to Harrisburg is only 25 miles, and Harrisburg is a majority black city.

Red Lion itself is borough of almost exclusively non-Latino white people. I would like to think you won't be the victim of any overt racism, but you may find political and social discussions very lopsided. The area you are talking about is a Republican stronghold (for instance).

I sometimes find it annoying to be here people who automatically believe that President Obama was born in Kenya, and that he could never have been elected President if he was white.
