I am looking to move to York PA and would like some information on the area. I am a single woman with two young children. I will be moving from busy North Jersey...I am looking for a nice place to raise my children. Which school district is good in York? Work will not be a problem but I need a place that is safe and child friendly.

Best school districts in York County are Central, Dallastown and Suburban. Dallastown and Central are vary large districts, Suburban much smaller. Lots of housing options in all~apartments, condos, small to large homes, but at a much more reasonable price than northern NJ. All are in safe communities, accessible to stores, restaurants, malls, major highways. York has 2 hospitals, 2 large malls and several strip malls, is about 30 minutes from Lancaster and Harrisburg and an hour to Baltimore. There is a rail trail for bike riding, lots of parks, neighborhoods with sidewalks and many of the schools are in neighborhoods where children can walk to the school. Cost of living is moderate~your dollar goes a long way here.

Thank you for your feedback. Looks like I will be calling York home in less than 12 months. I plan to go visit and see the place for myself. Dallastown does appear to have a good rating from all the sites I checked regarding schools.

Thanks again.

We're in Southern York County and are very impressed with the schools coming from Harford Co, MD years ago. Check out Stewartstown, Shrewsbury and the surrounding area!

I have lived in Dallastown for about 8 and a half years. I love it. At first it was a struggle, but I have come to really appreciate York. Dallastown is probably the best school district in the area. I graduated from D-town 2 and a half years ago, and I appreciate the teachers I had. The district isn't lacking in any technological area, and the teachers are pretty good. D-town offers many sports and extra curriculars and teachers are generally very supportive of students' efforts. They're also professional and likeable. Dallastown is also really safe.
