Where is a good place to live for a family? Interested in Hershey. Is Elizabethtown too far of a commute? Any info would be great?

We have traffic around here so Hershey would be 45+ minutes each way on normal day shift from anywhere with a Mechanicsburg address. Hershey doesn't have much shopping either so unless you think you will be at the theme park every weekend there isn't much point to that drive.

The Cumberland Valley school district areas (basically northern half of the Mechanicsburg postal address area plus a bit more) are the standard recommendation for transferees, on many criteria it out-points the Derry Township (Hershey) SD too.

Unless there is a spousal work or family issue there wouldn't seem to be much point in heading through several traffic choke points and/or expensive daily Turnpike toll to head towards Elizabethtown, that area has surprisingly little shopping even for the basics, while Mechanicsburg has everything this side of driving to Baltimore or Philly.

Any reason why you wouldn't want to live in the Mechanicsburg area? Its just as nice as Hershey, and IMO nicer than Etown.

Hershey is on the extreme opposite of town from Mechanicsburg.

There's not really much in Hershey. During the summer, it gets crazy congested with tourists.

Mechanicsburg is great. I wouldn't live in town, however it's a great area. Upper Allen specifically is nice, and a couple minutes from town. Mechanicsburg school district is very good as well.
