I'm originally from Bethlehem, PA. Hubby is from South Philly. Our kids are grown. We moved to Upstate SC with intentions of building a ranch home and bringing my 70+ mom-in-law with us. She's disabled, Lupus, Fibro, the Arthritis family and the list goes on. I am almost her medical twin minus a few things. That said. My hubby and I once fell in love with the Lancaster area. Mom couldn't make the trip here and is now in critical condition near Philly. We'd been planning to move back before all this happened but it all hit so quickly. We've got a house to rent/sell . We're willing to rent/rent out to at least be within driving distance of Philly. I also have daughters in Pottstown, Northampton, Easton. For hubby those are not amiable. We've decided to try and head for northeast Lancaster Co. so we can be closer to her and also keep our dream alive. I need good docs and hospital nearer to me as the docs here just aren't equipped to deal with my kind of problems. ( I drive to Johnson City 2 1/2 hrs away for my Rheumatologist that moved from Jersey. I trust him) I've just got a big mess on my hands and since there's no "Lancaster Co.forum" I'm asking for y'alls help. Does anyone know or know anyone that knows: Northeast Lancaster area's that are a little easier on the taxes nearer to major hwys. but quiet enough? Maybe some nice little things to do . My hubby is a dental tech actually a floor manager- He makes dentures and works for a well known place here. He needs to be able to find suitable employment that he can get to at least by hwy. He's got 25 years experience and is very good at what he does. He's even had a business of his own working from home but really doesn't want the hassle anymore at least starting out with up there. I know it's a lot of info. but I'm just wracking my brain with everything going on and would truly appreciate any help that y'all could give me. My poor head is going in circles and I've gotta start somewhere. Thanks so much in advance for any and all help.

I would either check out Adamstown or the Ephrata area. Both towns are located very closely to the intersection of US-222, which is a four lane limited access highway in that area and the Pennsylvania Turnpike(I-76). Ephrata does have a hospital, but it is fairly small. Lancaster City is about 25 minutes depending on traffic to the southwest of Ephrata. Lancaster City is home to Lancaster General Hospital(LGH), which was recently ranked the sixth best hospital in the state of Pennsylvania and if LGH is not home to the specialists you need, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, located in Hershey, PA can probably help you.

Adamstown and Ephrata are both relatively nice small towns with well kept mature neighborhoods and some newer suburban developments. Ephrata has a main street with a good amount of stores. Additionally, on the outskirts of Ephrata there are a couple of strip malls. Wal-Mart is located on the east side of town right off the exit of US-222. I am not sure about taxes, but I'll put links down at the bottom of the page where that information probably can be found. Ephrata has year round activities like street fairs and so on and is home to the Ephrata Cloister. Lancaster City down the road is home to the Fulton Opera House, the Lancaster Symphony, Central Market and other events at the Ware Center downtown so there is always something to do in and around Lancaster County.

Adamstown's claim to fame is being the antique capital of the USA. Adamstown is quite a bit smaller than Ephrata, but it is only a short drive away. Good Luck on the search and welcome to this corner of the world!

Thank you so much for the information. I was very involved in the Nazarene church for quite a long time and have been to Ephrata but wasn't able to explore the area. My hubby and I went to a B&B near Adamstown and were pleasantly impressed. Where the Black Angus Restaurant is, behind it, are those lovely colorful shops where the folks live upstairs and have their business' downstairs. Fell in love with Vito Vino. They'd just introduced their new Black and Blue wine. My favorite of all time. One of my six daughters, who doesn't even like wine also enjoyed it immensely. In fact it's the only wine that she'll drink. I will check out the links that you provided tomorrow. Again thank you so very much. It is at least a starting point for a very tired, worn out couple just trying to "start" a new life in middle age.
