Hi,

I was hoping I could get some opinions on the salary for this job offer. The position is as a Java developer in Camp Hill, PA. It would be as a contractor. The pay is $40/hr, all inclusive in W2. Does this seem like a fair offer for this area?

I am currently not living in the US but am looking to relocate back. I have dual citizenship with the country where I currently reside, and my fear is that the recruiter that contacted me believed I was not an American citizen and only reached out to me because he was looking to hire cheap labor. I have read a few posts on this, and I don't want to be taken advantage of. I would really appreciate your opinions.

Thanks a lot!

$40/hour, with or without some benefits? If you'll be getting a W2 then you'd be an employee, not a contractor. Who would be your employer?

$40/hr -> about $80k per year. Without benefits, that would be scraping the bottom of the barrel. I know nothing about Camp Hill, but surely you can do better if you're qualified.

JJ Johnson,

Thanks for your response. The employer would be the IT staffing agency, and my understanding is that there are no benefits. Specifically, when the recruiter asked what kind of pay rate I was looking for, I answered that I was flexible depending on the entire compensation package. He then replied that it was $40/hr, all inclusive in W2. I haven't contacted him again because I wanted to investigate if this seemed like a fair deal.
