I just got a new job in camp hill. So far, i'm making the hour commute to work each day. A friend and I (both early 20's) are thinking about getting an apartment together in the harrisburg area. (preferably north of the river) We have been looking at the Executive House but can't make a decision because it's a little pricey. We want an area where the residents are close to our age. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry I can't really offer any specific advice, but I do have to ask why you would want to live on the north side of the river? You would have to cross the river every day...those routes tend to get a lot of traffic. If I were you, I'd look for something in Mechanicsburg or near your work.

It's something of a reverse commute to go from the city out to Camp Hill. Probably not too bad depending on what you call "Camp Hill." The office complexes near Holy Spirit Hospital (such as Rite Aid HQ, Gannett Fleming, etc.) might easily be walkable or bikeable from downtown.

Younger folks who think Hershey is too boring also commute out (which is less reverse, Derry Twp actually has about 10,000 more people paying occupational privilege tax or whatever it's called this year, than residents).

I'm too boring to know what the hot places are this year downtown/midtown, unfortunately I think many of the people whi did no longer post.

True. I thought about that after posting, but it still seems weird.

Can you explain this "occupational privilege tax"?

I have a feeling I'm paying it...

Well that makes sense then!

I wish I could offer more advice. We live in Hummelstown which would be a bit further out for you and wouldn't work.

The only thing I can offer is to think about parking in the downtown area...there just isn't much of it and it can be costly. At Executive House that may not be a problem 'cause they may have their own parking.

Good luck in your search!
