Mount Joy could be worth a look (unfortunately my favorite ever resto-bar in PA that was there closed, but the large perennial Bubes Brewery | Mount Joy, PA | remains), with Amtrak service (note, however, not all trains stop there) for a relatively easy escape. Not quite as cutesy as Lititz, but probably not as stuffy either.

Hummelstown pretty much has only one walkable bar/restaurant that meets what I think your criteria might be The Warwick Hotel and Restaurant (with Boro Bar & Grill | Restaurant in Harrisburg & Hummelstown PA on the edge of a new sidewalk, the chain-y Arooga's Hershey | Aroogas off the edge, and www.thepennhotel.com further off the edge).

Marietta and Mt. Joy sort of blend together, with the option of many nearby towns for more nightlife. Close enough to Hershey, Lancaster, York and just hop on the highways to go east to NJ/NY/Philly etc. Lots of venues for concerts, outdoor activities, trendy microbreweries, good biking/hiking and all of the shopping you could want. Quick trip to the airport or Amtrak stations and a cute walkable downtown with some fun restaurants.

Ended up settling on West Reading. Looks like a very lovely area with plenty of options for renting places with off street parking, and a yard for dog.

Thanks for all your help!
