Hi all. My family is living in Lebanon County right now, but we are planning to move back to Dauphin County in the summer. We will be renting a house. We have 3 boys - next year they will be in 3rd, 4th, and 7th grades. Our #1 choice is to find a house in Hershey so the kids can be in Derry Twp, but the last time we moved, we were unable to find a house in Hershey by the time we had to move (our previous rental house in Palmyra needed the entire septic system replaced, so we had to move even though we didn't want to). So we ended up renting in Cornwall Lebanon SD, which is good for schools, but too far from most of the stuff we enjoy (Whitaker Center, the state museum, day trips to Inner Harbor, etc), and Lebanon city has virtually nothing going on.

Anyway, if we can't find a house in Hershey, we're thinking we'd consider Central Dauphin or Lower Dauphin (not CD East - heard that's pretty bad). Can anyone offer insight on either or both of these districts - or compare the two? We're interested in the social climate as well as academics. Is the environment friendlier at one of the two? Better/nicer teachers? Should we stay away from any CD elementary in particular? Just want the kids somewhere with a decent program where they're relatively happy to be for the day.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Folks seem happier with LD vs. CD but not sure on specifics as to why and don't know either about which elementary school.

Hi mamabear,

I'm a licensed real estate agent with Brownstone Real Estate in Hershey, so I'm very familiar with Hershey and the surrounding areas. You can get school ratings on realtor.com. There are several rental homes available currently in Hershey and typically, the market picks up as we enter the warmer months, so don't lose hope about finding a home in Hershey. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me! Thanks and good luck! ☺
