The Census Bureau recently released new population estimates for metropolitan areas and counties. The Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area continues to grow at a faster rate than the state average.

2000: 509,454

Domestic migration continues to be positive, with the area adding up to 10,900 people from other parts of the country since 2000. International migration is estimated to be 7,940 since 2000.

Moving to Harrisburg area in 2 months...want to rent a nice 2 bedroom apt w/ easy drive to Farm Show Complex, within 20 mins if possible...area needs to be clean & quiet, lots of trees, and I don't need to get on route 81...someone suggested Linglestown or something district???...any other ideas?

Yeah, you will want to look into the Linglestown area if you want to avoid 81. It's directly north of the Farm Show Complex, you would head north on 322 to Linglestown road or east on Elmerton Avenue.
