A developer will start this week on infrastructure improvements designed to support construction of a major mixed-use project on a former factory site in Carlisle.

The project, led by Carlisle Events, will include a hotel, car condominiums, a restaurant, retail and office space and a three-acre public park with trails. It is being built on a 48-acre industrial brownfield site on Carlisle Springs Road and Fairground Avenue, the former home of International Automotive Components and also known as the Masland site.

Fascinating project. I won't call it bad. But man. The region needs to come together and adopt a vision. This sporadic planning is ruining the quality of life. The #1 thing the entire region needs to invest in, is transit. And focus on investing in walkable communities. If you look at other growing metro areas, the walkable communities are where all the growth, development and concentration is. Sprawling suburbs are out. Lets get it together Harrisburg. We are geographically located to be a powerhouse, but we squander it. Let's think BIGGER. We are one of the most undervalued regions in the USA. But we are positioned to be a powerhouse, given our geography and assets. Yet we focus on auto oriented suburbs of poor quality design. If we put our thinking caps on. We could actually be one of the centers of economic activity for the East Coast. Geographically. Nowhere else in the USA can compare. Let's get it together PA. This isn't about politics. This is about making us better!
