I'm curious as to what are the areas of Lancaster (city) that are dangerous? How accurate is this map?

I showed this map to my son who used to live in Lancaster near Lancaster General Hospital (now in East Hempfield) and asked how accurate this map is. He laughed out loud and said "Pretty much accurate".

I would first of all not call Lancaster 'dangerous'.

Random crime is quite low. And it is a beautiful city. The map accurately designates areas of desirability. I feel this is a more accurate term to designate.

Yeah, rowhomecity, you're right... It is desirability, not danger. The "Here Be Dragons" area is only meaningful if you believe in dragons. Very safe city, yes.

I remember driving back and forth along 999 from Millersville. That stretch to downtown appeared to have it's rough spots as does the southern portion of the city but it's honestly not awful. A few friends and I walked back from the bars along Hazel/Wabank at 1 am. It wasn't like there were hooded figures lurking in the shadows the entire way. Wouldn't do that by myself, but hardly super dangerous.

The NW portion is the safest, but of course be vigilant. Had some friends living off State st. One their girlfriends had her car stolen. Of course, she left her keys in the car....

When I was up there a couple years ago I think there was an armed robbery or shooting at some car parts store on the east side.

Overall I felt pretty safe there. Much safer than downtown Atlanta or Dallas, Houston, etc
