We will be down this way, Friday and Saturday this week, and hope to get in some landscape photography. Is there much (if any) snow or ice in the area?

- Shikellamy State Park
- Danville Riverfront Park
- Seven Tubs Natural Area - Wilke-Barre area, much farther north

You’re probably not going to get many responses to this question on the Harrisburg forum because none of those locations are remotely in the Harrisburg area. The Wilkes-Barre area is on the Northeast Pennsylvania forum (which is actually quite an active forum), so you should ask about Seven Tubs there. And though Danville and Shikellamy aren’t really in NEPA, the weather/ground conditions are arguably more similar to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton than to Harrisburg.

That said, I doubt there’s much if any snow or ice at any of the sites you mentioned, even at the higher elevations. Though the state has been experiencing below average temps for the past few days, Pennsylvania was well up into the upper 60s and low 70s late last week, and daytime highs have been above freezing for quite a while.

And one note on Shikellamy—the access road is blocked off in the winter months. I was there last year in mid April, and even then it was still gated off with “closed for season” signs. You could possibly hike up the hill, but just beware that you could be at least hassled and possibly ticketed if caught by a ranger. The scenic overlook in the park offers a commanding view of the Susquehanna Valley over Northumberland and Sunbury, but personally, I think the impressiveness of it is tied to the weather conditions and foliage. On a late-winter day amid lifeless gray trees and gray skies, it’s something less than interesting, in my opinion.

Thank you. We were there this past weekend, and yes, the weather Saturday was awesome. 75+ degrees and making it hard too even think about going back to Maine anytime soon. As you pointed out, and I never thought about, it was closed off with no direct access

From Harrisburg we took a side trip down to Westminster, MD and found some pretty cool old barns and old cars to take pictures of.

Sunday was not at all as nice as Saturday, that was disappointing. Even in the Westminster area it was cold and windy, but hey it wasn't snowing

Thank you. We'll be heading back down at the end of the month maybe things will have dried up some
