Hey everyone!

I just recently got a job in New Cumberland, and I will be moving there from NYC soon-ish. Im prior military, so I don't really mind moving, and don't mind places that aren't NYC. I've only been to New Cumberland once, a few weeks ago to check it out and i liked what I saw. (not a fan of things being closed on Sundays, though lol)

I'm not married, no kids. Just me and my lonesome. A lot of threads from newbies on this page arefrom families, or couples. so not much help.

So wanted to hear your thoughts on single living in New Cumberland (or maybe Harrisburg?). Places I should be living in, places to watch out for. I understand it's more family oriented, so I'll probably stand out like a sore thumb.

I am worried about the cost of living, that I wont be able to afford some place like the high-rises in Harrisburg (which are mainly 1-2 bedroom apartments - perfect).

Hows the food? I'm a big foodie, though, I have missed some of the chain restaurants that i've grown to love from my time in the military (cracker barrel...yum).

Sorry for rambling! But any useful information will go a long way.

Check out Mechanicsburg or Camp Hill. Housing a little less expensive and many young professionals live in the suburbs and commute to the city. There are some great restaurants in Harrisburg and lots of others in Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, New Cumberland area. Yelp and TripAdvisor are usually reliable about their reviews.

Are you looking for more of a suburban or urban neighborhood?

New Cumblerand is convenient to Harrisburg which does make it very convenient for enjoying the city.

I would recommend checking out:

New Cumberland
Harrisburg (Midtown or Downtown)
Lemoyne
Camp Hill

Mechanicsburg is a bit more removed from the city (not by much), but it makes access a little more expensive, say you want to enjoy Harrisburg's nightlife and Uber home.

New Cumberland is a nice small town with some good night time flavor of it's own and more in the surrounding area. As for housing I would check what's available in town first, then maybe expand South along the Old York Road, (Bridge St. South of the airport). True, there isn't much open in New Cumberland on Sundays, but Harrisburg and the York surrounding areas are more lively. Then there's always week-end get always to places like Gettysburg or Baltimore. I think NYC would be about a 3hr. drive, so visiting home would be a possibility for a week-end.
