Congratulations....hope this is helpful, not sure if you have moved, but the Hershey/Hummelstown area is very nice, albeit not the big city. No "big" cities round here....not even the Capital - Harrisburg...but we are very close to many shopping mecas! Philadelphia, Lancaster, Towson, Baltimore...all are within 2 hours driving. Diversity can be a problem (especially within the Central Dauphin School District), but as an adult, I have found that there are many opportunities in this area for diversity. I have lived on the Harrisburg/Hummelstown border for almost 20 years now and have found this to be a great area to live and raise a family. Close enough to some big cities to get in some decent entertainment and shopping while still being able to see some trees and wildlife!

Hello,
I am a long resident of the Derry twp/Hershey/Hummelstwon area. the three are blended but separate. Derry Twp is Hershey 17033/ Built by Milton Hershey, the residents try to keep it small quaint and pleasant and beautiful, the schools there are great, taxes are highest in area, a lot of diverse housing from dorm style for med students to multi wing mansions all with a view of the center of the town and Hershey park. Hummelstown is a small town connected to and wraping around west and south of Hershey, lower taxes, good schools, all areas people are pleasant and diverse, I have raised my family here in both towns and love both towns for the qualities they offer. I hope you find what you need and enjoy the area.

Also incorrectly. The zip code boundaries just don't coincide with the local government/school boundaries. I used to live in South Hanover Twp, Lower Dauphin school, Hershey 17033 address. Now it's Derry Twp, Derry Twp SD, Hummelstown 17036.

Unless you absolutely need to take that job, I would HIGHLY advise you to visit and spend at least a week or so if not longer in this part of PA first so that you can make sure you will be happy there. I have seen a number of people move to that area from larger cities, and many didn't last very long. Good luck.
