Im moving to the area and I found affordable housing at a place called Residences at Governor's Square in Harrisburg? The pictures look really nice but is it a safe place to live? i read through some posts about the area and now im not so sure but i cant afford a rent of more than $500. i will also consider mechanicsburg and hummelstown if i can find a cheap rent.

thanks to anyone who can help

heres the link to the apartments

That's a pretty sketchy area, but not the worst by any means. It is however just a few blocks from one of the worst parts of the city (4-5th/Woodbine area).

I would recommend living closer to downtown (stay below the 1800 block of any street east of 3rd).

I live at the Res. @ Gov Sq Apts, and it's not too bad. It is, as Dan has said, 'close' to 'not-so-good' parts of the city. I would never put my family in danger for low rent. It's not worth it. I wouldn't let them put me on or north of Forrest Street. From MacClay to Menuech Sts, you're ok. I still don't leave my cars unlocked but ..... LOL

If I have any complaint, it concerns the ghetto office manager. She's gone most of the time for one reason or another though, so you don't have to deal with her too often.

Did you consider to share a place with someone, and get a house to rent or alot nicer apartment in the nicer part of town.
Now if that is out of the question look up at Lykens, PA alot of people commute to Harrisburg from there and it is safe town overall and a small town.
