Middletown as a whole is modest but not scary. Generally there is more economic challenge south and west of the RR tracks than in this neighborhood to the north. (But I live 5 miles from there, not there...)

Middletown is safe PERIOD. I've been living here for 30 years, it's ranked 2 safest for it's size in the nation.

Definitely. I find it interesting that Middletown is actually older then its big city neighbor and county seat to the north, Harrisburg. I could be mistaken but I think Middletown used to be the county seat before Harrisburg.

You won't have any problems walking through Middletown. Nice, quiet town with a good school district.

well, so i took your advice and got off the train and wandered around. I was pleasantly surprised. the housing stock was nice (plenty of impressive old homes but also a lot of nice middle class homes in town, IMO). town did seem safe, quiet, clean...if a little on the boring side (couldn't find a troeg's or a good cup of coffee). train is right IN town. ate at kuppy's (ok, decent diner food) and brownstone cafe (pretty good actually, pleasantly surprised). anything to hit should I ever make it back? is there a place to look at rentals online?

article about middletown pop changes
Press and Journal

I think, personally, that middletown's historic core will see some increased interest if and when the Keystone corridor is upgraded reducing trip times from 90 min to Philly to 75 minutes (and hopefully less). I think this impact would be much greater than the potential corridor one.
