Hi everyone,

Where in or near Harrisburg would you consider a 'walkable' neighborhood? Close to parks, coffee shops, cafes... Also maybe has nice big trees.
I was thinking Midtown seems the closest to what I am looking into. Around 3rd and Riley neighborhood.

Agree? Or, any other suggestions?

Thanks

here is the question/answer part:

When are you moving? within 6 months
Where are you coming from? California - Monterey Bay area
Why are you moving? TOO EXPENSIVE HERE!! Also, I am hopefully getting a job.
Where will you be working? Looking into it. I would not move until job is secured...hopefully within 6 months
Have you been here yet? We have family in the area but we have not been yet. Lots of google.maps investigating

Will you buy or rent? Probably rent first unless we found an amazing place
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend? townhouse or house. Up to $200,000
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Up to $200,000
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? any

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Married. No kids yet but we are adopting. Expecting in 2 years
Do you prefer public or private schools?
Do you have pets? Dog
Do you want or need a yard? Yes
Are you keeping a car? Yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Living in quiet but walking distance to activity.

What do you want to be closest to? Shopping...Coffee Shops...Restaurants...
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Nightlife
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? We are open.

Phillies, Pirates or Orioles? Umm...Penguins?

Midtown or the Shipoke neighborhoods. You'll actually have no problem buying in your price range in either neighborhoods, as even the nicest houses usually sell for slightly under $200,000.

In addition to all three of the aforementioned neighborhoods (though Uptown Harrisburg north of Division Street, while nice in general, doesn't have a whole lot of commercial development), outside but near the city you have Camp Hill, New Cumberland, Lemoyne (not as nice as CH or NC but not bad), Marysville (see Lemoyne comments), and Mechanicsburg on the West Shore and Paxtang (or at least portions of it), Penbrook (see Paxtang comments), Highspire, Hummelstown, Middletown, and Linglestown (though Linglestown is on the small side) on the East Shore.
