I have made an observation. Hawaii's harshest season for haole transplants is winter, because they can't go skiing. Don't let them mope around about missing out on carving fresh powder on the slopes. This holiday season, do your part and take your haole friends to the beach, or out surfing, or snorkeling. Remind them that they could be shoveling snow and scraping ice off their windshields right now.

But Winky, you CAN go skiing! You have to drive your own ski lift, but there's snow on Mauna Kea.

I love to e-mail my friends back in Missouri and tell them I have "6 feet of sunshine" on a January day! LOL <evil laugh>

Born and raised in Hawaii and now living in the Midwest. I certainly do miss warmth and sunshine year round. I hate how the sun sets at 5pm everyday. It hasn't snowed just yet, but I quickly got over how "cool" snow was after one week while I lived in the Northeast...

I don't like winter, cause we have to wear many clothes and we can't stay outside for a long time, just stay at home everyday. It's dull. But there rarely snows. How can we imagine that people who always live in the place where often snow in winter?

This is our first "winter" in Hawaii (moved from Colorado), and I can tell you, wink, that we do not miss the snow and COLD at all. In fact, our only problem is being so confused over the fact that it's December 1 and it looks like July 1 outside. It's hard to get into the Christmas decorating mindset. How can I be shopping for a tree when it's 80 degrees? Just not right! But then I go outside and feel the warm sun and smell the plumeria, and yes, it is right!

Default Brrrrrr

This post is too funny. We just had a ton of snow come in over the past 2 days (6-9 inches) here in Boise. I can't wait to return to Maui! We are on a 6-9 month plan so I am telling myself we are only on vacation here so it doesn't seem so bad! No more winters for me......can't believe we came back to the main land! I don't advise it to anyone. Aloha
