My girlfriend has asthma and sometimes the VOG can give her issues. I want to have a in cabin airfilter in my car that will help remove the Sulfur particles that range from .3 to 5 microns.

The Fram filter at the autoparts store was advertised to have baking soda in it which my scientist friend said it makes sense in theory as it would help neutralize the sulfur, and the filter said it would filter 5-100 microns.

Is there a way for me to modify my air filter to block smaller particles?

Maybe buy a better filter and custom fit it into the filter frame?

Could I possibly lay a special fabric on top of the regular filter?

What do you guys think?

I know there's only so much I can do but if possible, having my car as an emergency shelter would be incredible.

Aloha

Where do you live and what kind of car do you have? Many vehicles come with a carbon filter - which would work well. I would also ask your local dealership if they have any additional options.

You might also want to pick up one of the respirators, such as what the park rangers carry with them.

Since many of the filters are simply air filters used in the air cleaner or similar things, don;t expect the dealer to have anything that is not OEM or supplier provided. But searchingt he internet for aftermarket filters will yield many alternatives from plain paper to activated charcol to even HEPA filters for cabin filters. And i bet the cost of the best aftermarket filter is still cheaper than what the dealer charges just for part of the plain one
