I've only been to Hawaii one time about 20 years ago, February of 1992. We stayed in Kona on the Big Island for 8 days. We went scuba diving in the ocean (6 different dives), deep sea fishing, went down underwater in a submarine (I don't know if they still have that there). I remember it rained for a few days we where there.
I've always had this fantasy though since I was a teenager in the 1990's of sailing a sailboat from California to Hawaii (its like a 3 week journey) and then visiting all the islands that way. Kauai looks like a really beautiful island with its forests and mountains.

Kahoolawe probably won't get anything considering until recently, it was a restricted military island operation and even today it's restricted due to the possibility of you getting blown up by unexploded ordinaces. Hopefully they can get the place cleaned up, revegitated and people can actually vist as tourist instead of in organized groups trying to reconvert it from atraget to a island again.
One unknown fact is since the 1040's it had more "airfields" than any other island. Of course they weren;t for landing planes and were only mockups for blowing them the heck up, but when flying over, its fun to try and see the vague outlines.
I am a resident of Kona on the Big Island and I love this island. That said I love all of the islands. It would be hard to pick a favorite. I picked Kailua-Kona to live but spend time on all of the islands.
Big Island for me. Hilo feels like year round spring, Kona feels like summer and Waimea feels like fall. Nowhere else can you take a relatively short drive and change your season.
Intersting on the poll - when I land in Kona I always feel like I land the moon and its moonlike surface and when I go to Hilo love the tropical feel but not the pouring rain and nothing to do.
