I find myself more attracted to Honolulu, moreso because it's a big modern city that happens to have a cool mix of people and out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. If that city was just a tiny little town, I'd probably feel less interested.
I also like the mix of Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, haole, and every mix of that and more. It would be lacking that as well, and mostly a homogeneous mono-culture.
So, I'd probably say that I'd be less interested in the Hawaii of 200 years ago.
Ok, I have been taking this poll seriously and keep going back and forth. I do have a question for someone smarter than I. When were all the wars between the different islands going on? I have heard some AWFUL stories about things that happened in those wars.

Certainly the poll timeframe isn't exactly a peaceful time around here. The islands were unified in 1810.
My issue with the timeframe is life expectancy (probably 40 or less), no concept of hospitals, and death whether by war or natural causes could not have been a pleasant experience. Women - think childbearing was a picnic back then?
Aha ... I see a hiccup in the intended meaning of my little poll ... but no matter ... this is a good one too. I may have to run another one later as well. This will cover the interesting concept of going back in time to live the actual history of Hawaii. The poll concept grew out of the question: "would anyone really choose to live the simplicity of pre-modern conveniences in Hawaii" ... that is: would anyone prefer a relatively primitive lifestyle? -- as opposed to: would you like to live through the historical events of the past -- which events included warfare and the introduction of diseases and the conquests by Europeans / Americans that resulted in the decimation of the Hawaiian population and self-rule.
For my own part:
nope, I would not like to live the past history ...
yep, I would enjoy the simplistic lifestyle without crowds and modern conveniences.
I vote for modern medical care, nutrition and education.
I'm not a fan of smallpox, superstition, infant mortality, human sacrifice or starvation.
