Ha! I know that answer:

On the map Hawaii is in that outlined box to the lower left of San Diego.

The whole country of Japan lost in World War Two. Now Japan is big in Electronics, and Auto's Manufacturing. It's kind of strange for Japan not to have a military. United States has Hawaii Islands because of the good Travel Industry. Thoughts?

The could be broken into four separate questions, to help with the 500 needed:

Q. Was Hawaii involved in WWII?
Q. How far is Japan from Hawaii?
Q. How long does it take to drive from Japan to Hawaii, including electronic and auto products?
Q. Are there many tourists in Hawaii?

It would have been so romantic if Russia had been at peace with the USA in the 60s and had built a space station in Hawaii...

The United States has the Hawaiian Islands because it's a strategic necessity enabling us to keep control of the northern Pacific Ocean.

Tourism is a nice perk for the economy of the people living here, but if that all dried up - the military would still be here.

We are the only state that grows in land mass: 500+ acres in 30 years

Of course we are sinking a bit as well.
