Lots of data for those who get a kick out of such things.
One of my favorite tables is Table 19---the table of "State General Sales Tax Collections Per Capita."
Yeah, just as I thought.
Even though our rate might be lower, we tax everything. So (YAY), we're number ONE!!!!

I had a few years during which I paid almost 100,000.00 bucks in GE tax, what they did with the money, I'll never know. And you don't EVER want to have to deal with the State of Hawaii tax office on a one to one basis. It really is a frightening experience. I've lived in the same condo over here for over 30 years, and just found out, FROM THIS WEBSITE, (Thanks Blink) that there was an exemption for occupant/homeowners on property tax. Figured I've overpaid by well over 50K. Now I'm trying to get just a portion of it back. Tax office says it was an exemption all along, they can't help it if I never applied for it. Well, what the hell is the sense in having an exemption available if you KEEP IT A FRIGGIN SECRET!!!!

End of rant, think I'll go watch the sunset, it's tax free, in Kihei. There is a cover charge in Wailea though

Wear a hardhat out there tonight. It could get meteory

I put part of your comment in bold - because it is yet another reason why people need to really consider carefully, the total costs of living here. Hawaii even taxes food and medical services (as in your doctors' visits) !
Hawaii's GET (a high-end sales tax, if you will) really hurts the poorest people the most.

I'm surprised you didn't know that - that is a fairly common topic on CD in Hawaii.

You must have a heck of a condo if you think you've overpaid $50K over 30 years, the exemption is alright, but it isn't that dramatic to your overall bill.

It's a heck of a condo. As we all know, exaggeration is against the CD TOS, and I would NEVER,,,, uuuurrrrpppp, scuze me, violate the TOS
