Among the inhabitants in Hawaii, are there other notable people with Kenyan ancestry? Keeping in mind the opposite side of the earth from Hawaii is Botswana, rather close to Kenya? It's not apparent to most people just how far the distance gap is between Africa and Hawaii.

Some people in mainland US, however, if given a test with Hawaiian names and Kenyan names of towns and foods and spiritual terms, could not pass the test of knowing which are Polynesian words and which are of the African nation, I don't think. AND there is a town in Kenya named "Hawaii".

The President's father was there as a student. There are only about 20,000-25,000 Blacks in Hawaii, and I would say the majority of that is due to the military influence. I would suspect that most of the Black population in Hawaii is American born. However, it would not surprise me to see African students in Hawaii, or some of them striking up a romantic relationship with someone in university. I don't have any reason not to believe the President was born in Hawaii.

I think it's VERY safe to assume that most Hawaiians believe he WAS born in Hawaii.

I think a person has to be half brainwashed by a cult, and have one foot resting in a bomb shelter in Idaho, to still believe that campaign smear.

Probably the most educational post I've seen on City Data -

Africa and Hawaii are far away from each other. Thank you for our lesson of the day

I hope to spread the word at various staff meetings today and pay it forward.

I agree. I believe he was born there too.

And the brainwash part, well, my opinion is that some people buy into the campaign smear because it fits with their bigoted views.

Hawaiians usually are more concerned with folks who have Hawaiian blood more so than any other type. If you have enough Hawaiian ancestry, then you're eligible for all sorts of things in Hawaii. Nobody really tracks Kenyan, English, Swedish or any other type, really. Well, except maybe O negative in times of emergency and you need a transfer.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that some people on the mainland think Hawaii is a foreign country. There's enough folks over there that I'm sure at least a few of them will think anything.
