A proposal to raise B&B taxes in Newspaper today. It will affect over 1100 B&B in the state of hawaii that are too small to be label hotel and resort. Almost like a 300% increase to small B&B operations. Do You think this will raise prices for B&B, hotels, condos? your thoughts.

it may or may not raise the prices at b&b's. the 1100 that you speak of are probably are permitted. there are many many more that are not. there's a big to-do going on in the kailua/lani kai neighborhoods regarding illegal b&bs.

I own one of these vacation rentals. I am fully licensed, pay about $5,000 per year in general excise and transient accomdations tax, pay property tax and pay $400 every other year for my Transient Vacation Unit permit. I can assure you that if my property taxes are tripled, this cost will be reflected in my rates. I'm running a small business not a charity. Contrary to popular belief, I don't make a profit, in fact with the cost of Hawaii real estate, very few VR owners realize a profit. My VR is an investment and eventually my retirement home, and for a few hundred dollars a month I consider it to be worth it.
