I don't have first hand knowledge, but have friends who are "local" and have told me stories of their lives going there. It sounds hardcore, if you go to greatschools.org it rates the schools on many factors and I believe Kau is rated pretty low. I don't know Kona, but for Hilo side I would suggest St. Joesph's or Hilo High. Good luck..

I've read/researched all I can on the net, but first hand experience is what I'm really after. Is this school better or worse than any others? Is ther really any other choice - without moving to a different part of the BI?

My son is a bright (mostly A' and B's), friendly kid, who gets along with pretty much everyone. He intends to go on to a four year college and/or university after high school.

Any thoughts? (all answers appreciated - both good and bad)

Thanks!
I have re-read this about 20 times, trying to figure something out by reading between the lines. I asked the wife and then my almost 16 year old what he thought - still no help. (He goes to Pahoa, all A's and B's like your son)

Why are you picking this area to live? It is very remote, there are not any real stores, including grocery stores, etc. close by and almost nothing for your 16 year old to do.

I really think that you should consider an area closer to "civilization" as long as you have a child in school.

So it is.

I just saw it and responded. It didn't have the "old thread revived" symbol.
Still, curious if they ever moved, how it has worked out if they did, and why that location.
