Who is in Hawaii's high society? Where do they go to school? Where are they from? Where do they live? Where do they work? Where do they meet, associate, or go out?

They know enough to evade climbers. Growing up we ran with family from Baldwins and Kaisers to new money people like Pfluegers (finally the criminal net fell), Ariyoshi (his son dated my sister) and many others that do not easily let people in.

Schools are always ILH if in State. Money is nice, but not needed if breeding is sufficient.

It means that there are some families that are no longer "comfortable", but their names will always be welcomed into the same circles.

Resorting to a reliance on one's "breeding" is the last line of defense of those who have managed to run out of money while simultaneously achieving nothing of note (incl. professional, artistic, and/or philanthropic). Merit, particularly among perceived newcomers, inherently threatens their identity and position.

Hawaii's small society is divided between various institutions/organization depending on demographic.

OR, families that known each other for generations like the feeling of familiarity of each other. Business networking if fine, but socializing with old friends is quite nice since it can be exhausting to be politely "on guard". Friendships made in school is a lovely way to widen the circle.
