Hawaiian lawmakers have asked state officials to update emergency plans and procedures for coping with a nuclear strike by North Korea against the islands, reports U.S. News.

The islands, located in the Pacific Ocean and filled with US military personnel and bases, is an attractive target should war break out with the North Korean regime.

The State House Public Safety Committee unanimously passed the resolution, with the Committee Vice Chairman saying the intent was not to spread fear, but to prepare for the worst should it occur.

“Hawaii’s prime location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and its abundance of military commands, including the United States Pacific Command, which is responsible for military operations in an area covering more than half of the earth’s surface, makes the State a strategic target,” reads the resolution.

“Nuclear arms experts recently said that North Korea already has, or may soon have, the ability to target Hawaii with a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile with possibly the same destructive force as the 15-kiloton and 15 20-kiloton bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki...Under the current state of geopolitical tensions affecting the United States, it is in the best interest of Hawaii to prepare for a nuclear disaster,” it says.

The committee is seeking more funding for public education, infrastructure improvements, warning sirens, and new fall-out shelters throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

The resolution now goes to the state's finance committee for approval.

From Hannity?? You gotta be kidding me.... The news on Oahu has a story with a French tourist being bitten by a shark off Kekaha. That could stoke some kind of an international incident.

North Korea would be lucky to hit South Korea with a nuke, let alone a little speck in the middle of the ocean.

There's still bomb shelters around from WWII if you know where to look.

So if they launch a nuke at us, don't we have interception options?

Of course, that then detonates it over some poor little island between here and there.

I'd rather spend my allotted "panic time" preparing for things that are more plausible than possible.
A giant metal Korean phallus is not very high on that list.

With over a thousand posts I'd like to think that he's not intentionally trolling, but rather (considering his name) raised in the "digital age" where people have completely forgotten their manners and how to truly interact with one-another.

I agree. Unfortunately for the South Koreans, Seoul will take the brunt of any effective military strikes by Kim Jong-un. Many missile strikes could be launched at Seoul, and a potential nuke could be driven thru an undetected underground tunnel, before such an offensive can be stopped.
