Hi everyone, I'm considering moving to Oahu or Maui this summer. Is it hard to find affordable rent? I'd like to live as close to a beach as possible. I'm only looking to live in Hawaii for 6 months or so, who knows, maybe longer if I love it.
I'm a PE teacher in Iowa, I know how hard it is to find teaching jobs in Hawaii so I won't even try. I was told Hawaii won't hire PE teachers out of state for some reason, who knows? So if I can't find full time work in Hawaii I'm at least looking to come for a while and find some different type of work. Maybe at a restraunt, hotel, etc.......
I've been to Honolulu before and loved it.
I'm just concerned about finding an affordable place to live, and find a job. Any thoughts?..........Thanks everybody!

Your best place to search for both is probably Craigslist, here:

craigslist: hawaii classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

You can look at each island's offering.

The cost of living in Hawaii is expensive all the way around. Especially close to the beach. But you neve know, you might find a good deal if you keep looking!

If you only gonna be there 6 mos. what about renting a room from a homeowner? You'll prob have better luck getting closer to the beach that way.
