I wouldn't consider Hawaii wealthy. There are wealthy people or wealthy areas but average personal wealth isn't up there and when you look at things like infrastructure, housing, etc. it's not great.

9.20% of Hawaii households have investable assets greater than $1,000,000 ranking 5th in the nation. Just imagine where we’d be if we weeded out the BI.

Millionaire households: 44,383
Total households: 482,601
Rank: 5 (+1 from last year)
Concentration of millionaires: 9.20%
Median income for all households: $80,212
Median home value: $631,700

Is Hawaii a wealthy state? Well, let me put it like this: it has more waste and resources (in terms of social services, etc.) than I'd expect a poor state to have. The tax base (and I include tourists as a part of that tax base) is enough to fund many of these programs, but we see how much the state struggles to fund services if tourism takes a dive; the millionaire base and high state income tax rates don't cut it.

Yeah but the services aren’t needed that the State will struggle to fund for the millionaire households.

I’m still shocked people think it’s ok that over 1/3 of residents on the BI use food stamps. Give them a wake up call and tell them to get a job and feed themselves.

I hope many of the upcoming cuts get the freeloaders out of here or actually get their overweight selves actually doing something.

While all true, my point is that speaking about how wealthy the state is on a per capita basis means little to the masses, especially without the tourism taxes.

I agree.
OP, what are you trying to get at with original question-
Status of state finances, social service safety net, general quality of life...?

We should all rejoice these masses you speak of might have to actually work - Hawaii is among the worst of the worst blue states hoping for a handout.

All the freeloaders. I’ve never understood why people think that’s ok. Especially in the land of freeloading Big Island.
