To each his/her own, I say. I do plan to visit the other islands at some point, but I don't think I would ever live on an island other than Oahu.

I was lucky to come to the islands in the 70's on a tour that started in Waikiki then to Hilo and Kona and Maui and Kauai. It was when we hit Kauai that I thought "this is Hawaii". Then back to Waikiki. I've never been back to the Big Island but may go soon as I have a friend that retired there. Maui and Kauai multiple times usually with friends visiting. Molokai was a one off deal. I've contemplated living on a NBHD island but I really think it is too slow for a single person and the medical could be an issue as I age.

Molokai is beautiful. Hard to believe it escaped being destroyed by tourism.

I found it to be far less attractive than any of the other inhabited islands.

The coastline surrounding the largest town, Kaunakakai, is like a mud flat. People who live in town often swim in the harbor. Beaches involve a long drive.

The restaurants we visited (including the famous bakery) were exceptionally dirty. The only clean place was the fast-food Molokai Burger.

We stayed at the Hotel Molokai. It had been recently painted (including the shower, LOL). Nevertheless it is termite-ridden and rapidly disintegrating.

The Kaluakoi beachfront community which was developed as a tourist destination is a long drive from town and includes many boarded-up condos and dried out lawns.

I visited once about 5-6 years ago. Glad we went but once was enough.

Less attractive than Lanai? Lanai reminded me of a dust bowl.
